Scholarships Available
CONTINUING EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP-The New York State Real Estate Education Foundation (NYSREEF), by the institution of a scholarship program, hopes to raise the level of knowledge, professionalism and client service among those in the real estate profession by encouraging participation in approved courses. Any individual who has at least one year experience in real estate sales and/or other related diciplines and/or who holds a real estate license in New York is eligible. Applicants should: Show a positive motivation toward real estate education, prove interest in furthering their career in real estate, real estate education or REALTOR board administration, and be a New York State resident who is associated with an office located in NY State. Applications should be submitted between January 1 and July of each year.

INTERESTED IN OBTAINING YOUR GRI? ... GREAT SAVINGS AVAILABLE- GRI candidates have 5 years to attain their designation, but for those who would like to complete the series in one year, NYSAR has an added incentive. Requirements & Schedule
DEPARTMENT OF STATE REAL ESTATE CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

All real estate salespersons and brokers are required to complete 22.5 hours of approved CE during each 2 yr. licnese period. Licensed and certified appraisers are required to fulfill 28 hours of approved CE during a 2 yr. licnese period. *Effective July 1, 2008 real estate licensees are required to take at least 3.0 hours of fair housing and anti-discrimination coursework as part of the existing 22.5 hour requirement. The Elmira-Corning Board of REALTORS will offer two courses in 2010 that fulfill this new DOS requirement.

NAR'S 2.5 HOUR MANDATORY ETHICS REQUIREMENT

Between January 1, 2009 and December 31, 2012, every REALTOR is required to complete 2.5 hours of Code of Ethics training. This includes appraiser members.

NAR offers a free online course for members, CLICK HERE (*note this free online course does not count towrard continuing education)

You can also CLICK HERE take a course online that counts for 3.0 hours of CE credit and fulfills NAR's requirement for $19 "Real Estate Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct".

Mastering the Buyer Counseling Session (3.5 CE Hrs)

A buyer counseling session provides the ideal opportunity to lay the proper foundation of establishing a successful relationship with a potential buyer, and allows agents to distinguish themselves and the services they offer from their competition. Through proper questions, an agent can better understand the wants and needs, abilities and motivations of a buyer. With a thourough presentation of the home buying process, buyers will become more comfortable and less stressed which in turn could make the path to homeownership easier, faster and less expensive.

Social Networking Seminar ( 0 CE Hrs.)

Note-This is a seminar and does not count for Continuing Education Credit. Using social media as a marketing or networking tool is in its infancy. Like a lot of marketing endeavors, the results may be difficult to track. But if you're on the sidelines, your competitors may be making connections and building relationships with your prospects.

2010 Code of Ethics & Professional Standards Procedure Training (6.0 CE Hrs.)

This course was cancelled due to snow. It has been rescheduled for Wednesday, April 7th.

While everyone is welcome to attend, this seminar is intended for Board/Association Grievance and Professional Standards Committee members, Directors, Officers, Executive Officers/Professional Standard Administrators and Board Legal Counsels. This course qualifies for 6 hours of New York State Continuing Education Credit and the NAR 2.5 hour Mandatory Ethics requirement. ACCREDITED BUYER'S REPRESENTATIVE (ABR) DESIGNATION COURSE (15.0CE Hrs.)

This NAR designation denotes excellence in buyer representation and is awarded to REALTOR members who maintain Real Estate Buyer's Agent Council (REBAC) membership, pass the ABR course and one elective course, and act as a buyer's representative in at least five closed transactions in a three-year period. Designation incudes listing in NAR's online referral directory. See rebac.net for complete designation requirements.
Become an efficient and profitable buyer's representative by providing the quality of service and degree of fidelity that today's buyers expect. In this course, you'll gain a thorough understanding of agency relationships, policy options, disclosure requirements, conflict avoidance and negotiating skills. You tuition includes your first year's REBAC dues-a $110 value.

"Basic Understanding of Major Systems: Furnace, Air Conditioning and Electrical Service Size" (3.5 CE Hrs)

The intent of this course is to teach basic terms and definitions; describe major utility components, how they age and can be upgraded; the implications for home buyers with a a veiw to helping REALTORS serve their clients, answer client questions, and show they are knowledgeable professionals. An additional result will be to enhance REALTORS conribution to protecting the public in real estate transactions.

30 Hour Remedial Real Estate Course

This course is a prerequisite to "bridge the gap" for currently licensed Salesperson who now wish to obtain a Broker's licnese but have taken the 45 hour Salesperson Course, not the new 75 hour course. No state exam is given for the 30 hour Remedial Course, however, students must pass an end of the course exam. Those passing the exam also earn 19.5 hours of continuing education (3.0 hrs. of Fair Housing would still be needed to fulfill the 22.5 hour CE requirement). Once the student has passed the end of class exam they may proceed to take the 45 hour Broker's Qualifying Course.

Classes begin at 6pm, end times vary between 9pm and 10pm

SYSTEMS AND STARTEGIES FOR SUCCESS (15.0 CE Hrs.)

This 30 hour course was developed by NYSAR. The program has been tested twice and has received evaluations that were better than they could have imagined. They even had brokers participate so that they could see if it was something that thier new agents should participate in. They loved the program and even learned a few things! Although the course was designed for new licnesees, those who've been in the business a while can benefit by the motivation and focus it provides.

This program will help you:

  • Understand the essential elements of a transaction and how to manage the process to a successful closing.
  • Learn how to develop a systematic process to identify prospects and generate reliable leads.
  • Uncover marketing techniques and technologies to sell yourself to prspective clients and maximize property exposure.

"New York Fair Housing & Human Rights; Know the Law" (3.5 CE Hrs)

**THIS COURSE FULFILLS THE NY DEPARTMENT OF STATE 3.0 FAIR HOUSING REQUIREMENT**

Fair and equitable treatment in housing, and real estate transactions is a right by law. In this course, we focus on the mandatory fair housing issues real estate licensees must understand. The United States Congress and the New York State legislature have made it clear that ensuring equal access to housing is an important goal for our society. Real estate professionals need to know what conduct violates anti-discrimination laws to avoid potential liability.

Here you will learn about federal, state, and local anti-discrimination laws, problems that can occur from fair housing violations, and your duties and responsibilites to treat all clients fairly and equally under the law.

Forecloures - did you ever want to fully understand the foreclosrue process? Learn local procedures & much more! HUD Homes- HUD is insistent that things be done a certain way, and after this program you will confidently know the procedure. 45 Hour Broker Qualifying Course

The Elmira-Corning Board of REALTORS will be holding one Broker's Course in 2010 it will be begin Nov. 5th. For more information and an application CLICK HERE . REALTOR TRIPLE PLAY CONVENTION & TRADE EXPO IN ATLANTIC CITY NJ

The Elmira-Corning Regional Assoc. of REALTORS has organized a travel package through Covered Wagon Tours to the Triple Play Convention (spouses/guests welcome).
